Pipe repair and whole-home repiping in Austin

Fixing a single leak that's easy to reach usually costs $200 to $600. If your house has old galvanized or polybutylene pipe and the leaks keep coming, repiping in PEX typically runs $4,500 to $12,000, depending on size.

Signs your pipes need work

  • Water stains on ceilings or walls
  • Low water pressure all over the house
  • Rusty or discolored water from every faucet
  • Pinhole leaks showing up in different places
  • Gray plastic pipe stamped “PB” (polybutylene)
  • Pipes that bang or rattle when a faucet shuts off

Old pipe in Austin homes

Many Austin houses built before the 1970s still have galvanized steel pipe. It rusts from the inside, so water pressure drops a little every year until something gives. Homes built from the late 1970s to the mid 1990s, especially in parts of North Austin, Round Rock and Pflugerville, may have polybutylene, a gray plastic pipe that breaks down with age and tends to fail without warning. If you have either one, get a repipe quote before the next leak picks the date for you.

After a freeze

The February 2021 freeze split pipes all over town, mostly in attics, outside walls and hose bibs. If you lost pipes then, we can reroute or insulate the weak spots so it doesn't happen again.

  • Burst and frozen pipe repair
  • Whole-home repiping in PEX, usually done in two to four days

Common questions

How long does a repipe take?

Most houses take two to four days. We work one area at a time and turn the water back on every evening, so you're never without water overnight. Drywall patching is included in our repipe quotes.

Should I repipe with PEX or copper?

For most homes we recommend PEX. It holds up well in hard water, handles freezing better than copper and costs less to install. Copper is still a great pipe, and we'll use it if you prefer.

Will insurance pay to replace polybutylene?

Usually not as a planned project. But some insurers charge more or won't renew policies on homes with polybutylene, so replacing it can make coverage easier to get. Your agent can tell you where you stand.

We handle pipe repair across Austin and nearby cities. If water is spreading right now, see what to do while you wait, or call (512) 555-0100.
