The headline number: 84 cents of every dollar went directly to veteran programs. Nine cents went to fundraising, which is what generates the next year of program funding, and seven cents went to administration, which is what keeps the doors open and the audit clean.
Program spending broke down about as you would expect from the demand we see. Housing assistance was the largest single line, followed by benefits and claims staffing, then mental health services, then employment programs. Housing is expensive because rent is expensive, and because keeping someone housed for a year costs far less than rehousing them twice.
We are audited annually by an independent firm, and our board reviews the budget quarterly in public session. Meeting agendas and approved minutes are posted on the notices page before and after each meeting.
